Truck Driver FAQs
Magnet Transport Group is growing, and so is our team. If you’re a Class A CDL truck driver looking for full-time or part-time work, we’d like to learn more about you. Of course, we realize you’d probably like to know a bit more about us, too.
To give you some insight into our company culture and how we treat our drivers, we’ve provided detailed answers to the top questions asked by potential new hires below. You can also give us a call at (518) 769-0205 or email us anytime for additional information.
How is your truck driver pay structured?
Our drivers get paid 25% of the gross revenue for each load. We believe that transparency and trust go hand in hand, and our drivers know exactly how much each load pays from a simple calculation of the load’s gross revenue.
How much home time does an average truck driver get?
Our drivers are home almost every weekend, and mostly every night. Our normal freight from our best customers delivers to the northeast region, allowing our drivers to end their day in the comfort of their homes. Although this is the case 90% of the time, some of our customers do have work that sends us further out, which entails some overnight and over-the-road work.
Do you provide benefits for your truck drivers?
Our full-time truck drivers are eligible for the following benefits, after 90 days of employment:
- Health, dental and vision insurance (we pay for an individual plan with our drivers offsetting the cost of added family members)
- Life insurance
- 401(k) with a 3% company match
- Paid time off (based on length of employment)
- Detention time (on loads exceeding a 2-hour unload time)
Do you offer paid time off for your truck drivers?
Yes! Our drivers receive holiday and paid time off based on their length of employment. Drivers receive one week (5 business days) after 60 days of employment, two weeks (10 business days) after 1 year of employment, and three weeks (15 business days) after 5 years of employment.
What type of routes are available (local, regional, over-the-road)?
One quality that we look for in potential hires is flexibility. While most of our normal freight allows our drivers to be home daily, we do occasionally have longer runs, and we try our best to distribute those loads amongst our drivers to create a fair work environment.
What areas of the country does your trucking company work in?
Our trucks have been in all the lower 48 states, but most of our work keeps us in the northeast. Hauling for our best customers puts us in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania on a daily basis.
What type of trucks do you have?
We pride ourselves on having a young fleet of clean trucks that are set up for any type of freight. Our trailer options include dry vans and Conestoga trailers, flatbeds and step decks with and without retractable curtains, flatbed stretches, single and double drop step deck trailers and stretches, and RGN trailers.
Where are the trucks dispatched from?
Our trucking company is based in the Albany NY Capital Region and all trucks are dispatched from Kingsbury, NY.
